TX500 Initial Problems

Post by G4GED »

Hi, Just completed construction. Took my time and checked every solder joint that was possible before powering up.

In the first Operate LCD display, CURR is blinking and the BUZZER is beeping and the FREQUENCY is displayed as 300kHz not 500kHz?
I've checked the pcb around Q8 and the tantalum capacitors as suggested in a previous post but cannot find any fault with those.
The xtal oscillator measures exactly 6.000Mhz on a frequency counter.

Can anyone advise me on this problems please?

Problem now fixed.
The flat cable in J2 was faulty.
Pre-amp and converter test OK.
Now how do I check the transmitter?

OK, now worked out how to command this rig to transmit.
However, although it switches to TX, there's no rf power output, so the saga continues...
Any advice appreciated should any member actually read this Forum anymore. I never see anyone else logged on except myself?

Well I feel like I'm talking to myself on this forum but just to put the wrappers on this subject. I've finally managed to solve the problems that I had and the TX500 is now able to transmit CW at 60W o/p on 472kHz and the LCD display is working correctly. The Pre-amp and 3.5Mhz converter also appear to work OK. Next step will be to try the Windows control program. I'd like to thank member Uwe DK1KQ for his tips and encouragement.
I've found this project quite a challenge and one I probably wouldn't choose to repeat.
