PA-100D

Just new to the forum. Done a bit of reading and interested in getting the 100-D to be driven from my HL2. Are these amps just sold in kit form? Shaky hands and bad eyesight would prevent me from doing small electronics soldering.
Also - are there any mods needed to the HL2 to drive this amp, assuming it has rf sense for band switching?
Thank you.

HI,

The amplifier is currently marketed by RoWaves in Romania, (www.rowaves.com) and is equipped with my firmware modifications. The amplifier has several modes of automatic band selection, Frequency Sense, whereby with about 100mW of CW input power the amplifier will automatically select the correct band, JUMA TRX2, which is intended to be used with the companion Juma transceiver, Elecraft KX2/KX3 mode which in fact will operate with any transceiver using the ASCII command set, Yaesu band select using the band voltages of a Yaesu FT817/FT818 transceiver, and the Yaesu 5-byte binary command set. If none of these are suitable (?) then there is a 'last resort' manual band selection mode available. The transceiver has to have a RS-232 serial output capability to use the Juma/Elecraft/Yaesu 5-Byte mode of band selection.

The amplifier has a maximum power gain of about 15dB, thus for 100W / +50dBm output you only need a drive power of 3W / + 35dBm. There is an attenuator that operates in 2dB steps to reduce the gain for higher power transceivers, such that with maximum attenuation, 6dB, in circuit the drive power is then 12.5W / +41dBm, so you have plenty of adjustment range to cater for almost any QRP transceiver.

I am attaching a copy of the User Manual, which should answer your questions. If you need any other assistance, let me know.

Simple question
Can I work with a higher Input (f.e. 25 Watt) when the PA-100 is in Standby or must it be switched off?

Hi, Bert,

Simple answer to a simple question, if the amplifier is in the standby state then the RF-in socket is directly connected to the RF-out socket, so yes, you can operate with more power straight through. Just be careful you do not accidentally switch to the operate state!
